OUR DEFACTO WORLD GOVERNMENT
As we look at the history of how human beings have organized themselves, we see that we have created traditions and institutions of ever-greater breadth and complexity: from tribes to clans to nation-states to nations and…is world government next?
The reality is that world government is now, not in the form of a centralized state, but in the form of arrangements between billions of individuals, millions of companies, thousands of transnational treaties, and hundreds of nongovernmental organizations from the World Trade Organization to the Clinton Global Initiative to the International Bird Watchers Conference. If 250,000 years of human history is any guide, the knitting together of human beings will continue, in a much accelerated form.
And at the integral stage of development the project is kosmo-centrism…

Jeff,
thank you for this positive, optimistic perspective!
Yet I wonder: ‘Government’ – isn’t that something fundamentally more holistic than what we have today?
Yes, there is a major and increasing worldwide interlinkedness in billions of processes and human interactions, but isn’t that so atomistic, that ‘humanity’ (and thereby the ‘world-holon’) as a whole is – in effect – still rather on something like an autopilot than effectively self-governing?
Yes, there are more and more global treatys – but are they comming from citizens, are they expressing anything like a ‘collective will’ – or do they rather come from well-organized economic players and their very partial and short-sighted needs? Aren’t we far away from a ‘primacy of politics’ (and, unfortunately, more and more so), which would be badly nessecary to manifest public interest and ‘integral sustainability’?
Would be happy to know your thoughts on that! 🙂
best,
Dirk
